While travelling on Karakoram highway from Gilgit to Hunza there is a beautiful Chalt valley, which can be seen from Karakoram highway. A rare explored scenic Chalt valley, it is situated at an elevation of 18,000 feet and starting valley of Nagar valley Nagar district Gilgit Baltistan. It is situated in lower Nagar valley, it is located on the bank of Chalt River and in front of Hunza river. A twisting road passing through lush green fields with a view of the flowing river and icy peaks will lead you to charming Chalt valley, it is 5 km distance from Karakoram highway. the scenic valley at the foothills of the Himalayas is known for its fruit and organic produce.
The valley offers glaciers, waterfall, landscape, snow capped mountains, meadows and a variety of fruits. Small population valley has four villages. People of this region are very humble. The traditional Ginani Crop Harvesting Festival is celebrated once a year in June in Chalt valley and brings together local communities in celebrations of a good harvest with music, polo, dances and traditional food.
Chalt valley offers majestic first best viewpoint of the massive Rakaposhi 7,788 m, It is ranked 27th highest in the world and the most prominent peak in Nagar district. Chalt is famous for its own green pastures and Boing pasture is one of the beautiful pastures of this valley. Chalt valley is famous for producing Apples, Apricots, Mulberry, Walnuts, Pomegranates, Peaches, Almonds, Grapes, Cherry, Figs Etc.
This region is geographically very important, it is the collision point of the Indian and Eurasian continental plates. About 50-55 million years ago these two plates collided along a geographical line on this point, giving rise to the Himalayas and which subsequently formed the Tibetan Plateau. The Indian plate still is still actively pushing north into the Eurasian landmass causing the mountains to rise about seven millimeters per year. The Old Silk Route ran along the side of the foothills and some intact sections of the Old Silk Road (connect Pakistan with China) can still be seen from here. In fact, locals taking their herds to the pastures for grazing, use it to this day.
Weather of Chalt valley stays very pleasant between June and July and this is the best time to visit this valley because the beauty of this valley goes at its peak during these months. Days stay fair and warm and nights are a little cold.
